ARCHIVAL  INKS OR UV (ultra violet light) INHIBITING INKS are used to print all images regardless of the paper or media they may be printed on. These inherently stable inks remain colorfast after printing for years and years of enjoyment of the finished artwork. Coupled with careful paper selection the results exceed those of traditional darkroom prints and can on fine art or cotton based papers and on canvas be of heirloom quality lasting well in excess of 100 years.

PRINTS ON PHOTO PAPERS: All photo paper prints are printed on a satin or low luster photo paper. Custom orders for gloss papers or metallic papers are available. Please call or email with your inquiry. Print longevity on traditional photo paper is expected to exceed 50 years with proper care and when framed with a UV inhibiting glass.

PRINTS ON ART PAPERS: We use Hahnemühle William Turner at 190 gsm as our primary watercolor paper. It is a medium tooth paper providing a little texture and depth and softens the printed image ever so slightly. This paper exhibits a 0.1% dot gain when printed frequently helping to bring on the look that the image may be a painting, a look preferred by many.  For photo rag papers we use both Canon and Hahnemühle rag papers, at 240 gsm or 265 gsm respectively.

The decision on which paper to print each image is typically made in house and is based on the image’s required color gamut, its mood and or subject matter. Some images print equally well on both papers. If you have a preference, please inquire and we will do our best to accommodate you.

All art or rag- cotton based papers are of heirloom quality and should last at least 100 years or more without noticeable fading.

PRINTS ON CAMVAS: Our ability to print directly to canvas and hand mount each canvas wrap by hand in house ensures we maintain absolute control over  the quality of each finished piece. Smaller sizes use stretcher bars with a 5/8” depth, and larger sizes will vary between 1” and 1 ½” depth to ensure critical elements of the image are not lost to the side of the stretcher bars. Canvas prints can stand alone without framing or they may be framed for a more professional finished look. Canvas Wraps are very popular due to the finished appearance which depending on the image may lend itself to looking more like a “real” oil painting due the texture of the canvas and to the ability to hang the work without the expense of framing. Canvas wraps are archival and are of heirloom quality and should last well in excess of 100 years.

MATTING AND FRAMING: All mats and foam mount boards are acid free and hand cut in our studio. We  carefully cut and join all of our own frames from a variety of length molding, but our current standard frame is a natural cherry usually a flat gallery style molding ¾” deep by 1 ¼” or 1 ½” wide depending on availability.  After the frame is joined via underpinning and gluing, it is sanded several times to achieve an extremely smooth finish. It is then oiled with several coats of  oil with appropriate drying times between each coat.  The natural aging process of cherry will darken the wood, although variations may occur from frame to frame due the nature of the raw natural wood. This process is typically complete in six months to a year. Your frame may require 1-2 coats of oil during this first year and perhaps 1x applications per year thereafter. A typical furniture oil such as lemon oil can be used. Determine any additional use if frame looks “dry”. Apply a light coating to the frame face and outside edge , but not the edge adjacent to the glass unless absolutely necessary. Clean glass after application of oil.

FRAMING GLASS: All glass used for framing uses True-Vue conservation clear” glass as our standard. This glass protects the image from 98% of UV rays. Glass upgrades are available by custom quote. Options include anti-reflective glass, museum glass or various grades of UV inhibiting or museum quality Acrylic or plexi-glass on larger works or where shipping concerns suggest the need. Pros and cons to each glass option can be discussed or you can visit http://www.tru-vue.com/ for more information.

ALL PRINTS are finished with a coating of a UV inhibiting spray or roll on liquid after a suitable drying period ensuring maximized print protection from gas chromatic fading and UV fading and improved resistance to dust and scratches.
