AN INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP:
The course will be comprehensive and discuss all aspects of digital photography necessary to provide you with the basic tools you will need to use your DSLR camera confidently. It will empower you with the knowledge you will need to take better images, manage and process them competently in your computer and either post them online or print them with accurate color.
GENERAL COURSE OUTLINE:
- THE DSLR:Learning the basic functions of your camera and basic menu set-up.
- USING THE CAMERA IN THE FIELD: The workshop will include 2-3 shooting session in the field. Topics will include planning a shoot; equipment preparation; dealing with the weather; Composition techniques; Care of your digital media.
- THE DIGITAL DARKROOM: A general discussion of digital darkroom equipment. Included equipment- the computer, your monitor(s), color management tools; film scanners and printer options. Basic computer set-up for digital image file handling; transferring your digital images from your media into your computer; digital storage and back-up; discussions of software options for the various stages of digital processing from workflow management, image manipulation; batch processing, etc. Software discussions will include basic Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom and a variety of less expensive and freeware programs too.
- IMAGE SELECTION, WEB PUBLISHING AND PRINTING: We will discuss the process of selecting your favorite images out of a group; Purpose of the selection, i.e. web or print; We will discuss how to post images to the web, © protection; web sites, “Facebook”, etc.; Finally we will discuss printer options in more detail and how to set up Photoshop and your printer driver to produce the best prints with consistency and predictability. Printing the digital file of your favorite image after you have prepared that file for printing will be the final session of the workshop.
The next workshop will be offered June 23 & 24, 2012. It is our intention that after the completed workshop you should leave feeling very informed, empowered and inspired. When: Saturday, June 23th 2012, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
and Sunday, June 24th 2012, from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m*

Maximum Group Size: 10
Meals: Both lunches will be included with the workshop fee and will be provided either as bag lunches or offered in local restaurants. Basic snacks and drinks will be available during classroom hours. Saturday dinner options will be discussed towards the end of the day.
Transportation: Participants are required to provide their own transportation. Most field work is anticipated to be within walking distance of the classroom. If we need to use vehicles, it would be for only very minimal distances.

Cancellations: Once registered, if you cancel prior to June 1, 2012, you will be refunded 100% of your payment. Troost Fine Art Photography reserves the right to cancel the workshop if fewer than four people register by June 15. Exact start time may vary depending on such variables as sunrise, tides and weather. Changes in the schedule will be sent out with any other last minute details prior to the course dates.
